Sports Centre
We are delighted to share our sports centre with the wider community. You’ll find us on the Victory Sports Ground on Nowton Road, in the heart of Bury St Edmunds and right beside Nowton Park, directly across the road from South Lee Prep School & Nursery. The Centre is looked after by the school on behalf of the town, and it is open to everyone, seven days a week, from 7am until 10pm.

Sports Hall Hire in Bury St Edmunds
Our sports hall measures 36.5 metres by 21 metres, which makes it one of the larger indoor sporting spaces in Bury St Edmunds. Whether you run a club, coach a team or simply want to play with friends, it can be hired by the half hour, by the hour, or for the same weekly slot all term. There is no membership to join and no waiting list.
The hall can be taken whole or divided in half behind a curtain, so it suits everything from a junior training squad to a full-size match. The equipment is already in the building and included in the price, so there is nothing to carry in:
- Four badminton courts with nets
- Four basketball hoops
- Four cricket nets with bowling carpets
- Indoor football goals
- Full-court netball
- Mini tennis and volleyball
Hire starts from £32 an hour for one side of the hall, or £54 an hour for the whole hall. The rate is the same at every hour we are open, with no evening or weekend premium. Hire for sport is charged without VAT.
Hall Hire for Fairs, Exhibitions, Meetings and Community Events
A sports hall is simply a very large, warm, level room, and plenty of what happens here has nothing to do with sport. We welcome:
- Fairs, fetes and craft markets
- Exhibitions
- Examinations, with a large, quiet room and clear sight lines
- Meetings, club AGMs and evening talks
- Dance shows and rehearsals, on a sprung, marked floor with a balcony for family to watch from
- Health and community days, including clinics and warm spaces
Hire for anything other than sport has VAT added at 20%.
Children’s Birthday Party Venue in Bury St Edmunds
Looking for space for a birthday party? Take the whole hall for the afternoon and bring whatever entertainment you like. Thirty children can run about properly, there is a viewing balcony for the grown-ups, and you are not sharing the space with anybody. You are welcome to bring an entertainer, an inflatable and your own food.
A two-hour party in the whole hall is £129.60 including VAT, and a three-hour party is £194.40 including VAT. We hire you the hall rather than run the party for you, but a big, clear, safe space turns out to be exactly what most families want.
Gym and Personal Training at South Lee
Our fitness centre sits alongside the main hall and is run by Sam Last of SGL Training. It has free weights, benches and racks, a treadmill, rowing machine, bikes and cross-trainers. Sam offers one-to-one personal training and specialist fitness classes for adults finding their way back to fitness, as well as coaching for young people. He has a particular interest in building children’s confidence through physical activity. Sessions are booked directly with Sam through SGL Training, and he is always happy to show you around with no obligation.
Easy to Find, Easy to Park, Easy to Book
Parking is free and right outside the door for everyone using the Centre. Entry is step-free by ramp, there are accessible toilets throughout, and four changing rooms with showers (two large enough for a full team). Assistance dogs are welcome.
Booking couldn’t be simpler. Our diary is live online: pick a time, pay by card and the hall is yours. Changes made more than 24 hours ahead are held as credit for a future date.
