Safeguarding Statement
South Lee Prep School and Nursery, is committed to ensuring the wellbeing and safety of all our students while they are in school. We firmly uphold the belief that every student has the fundamental right to receive their education within a nurturing, caring and secure environment. Including the right to protection from all types of abuse. Staff are trained to remain vigilant for any signs of distress in our students and are confident and well-prepared to apply our safeguarding procedures effectively, to prevent and alleviate any potential issues or problems.
Safeguarding is about ensuring that everyone within our school community is safe from harm, bullying, people who could abuse them, discrimination or harassment and to feel safe in our environment. It is our mission to create an atmosphere where everyone feels safe and protected. Should you ever have concerns regarding the safety or well-being of anyone within our school, please do not hesitate to approach one of our Designated Safeguarding Leads (DSLs). Their details are provided below.
Our school's commitment to safeguarding and promoting children's welfare extends to all staff, parents and volunteers associated with us. To fulfil this commitment, we have established a comprehensive Safeguarding and Child Protection policy, as well as associated procedures.
We encourage parents and carers to review these policies. There may be instances where we may need to share information and work in partnership with external agencies when concerns arise regarding a child's welfare. However, we will ensure that we always communicate our concerns with the child's parents or carers first, unless we have reason to believe that doing so would be detrimental to the child's well-being. In cases where a staff member is concerned about a child's welfare, they are obligated to record their concerns, including any relevant observations or conversations heard, and report them to one of the DSLs on the same day.
If a member of staff has concerns which relate to the actions or behaviour of another member of staff, indicating potential unsuitability to work with children, such matters will be reported to the Head (or, in cases involving the Head, to the Chair of Governors). The appropriate actions will then be considered and taken accordingly. We would also share our concerns with the Local Authority Designated Officer (LADO).
