In Cygnets this week, the children participated in a hands-on approach to learning – by holding four lovely chicks! They learnt how cockerels are the daddy chick and hens are the mummy chick.
As Mothers Day is approaching, the children have been talking about their mummies and why they love their mums so much.
Learning important hygiene lessons, Cygnets experimented with the pepper and soap handwashing routine. The children showed a great understanding to why this was important to keep themselves healthy.
As the sun has begun to come out, the theme of the week was ‘flowers’. The children painted different types of flowers, discussing the colours, number of petals, how and what they need to grow. The children then had the opportunity to give a friend they love a flower.
In Swans class this week the children had some very exciting visitors! Four fantastic chicks joined the fascinated children in the classroom.
In Reception, the children have been busy in our role play area playing the role of receptionist, optician and client.
They have been learning about the importance of regular eye checks and have had lots of fun identifying different sized capital letters as they have undertaken their eye test. Having listened to the story of ‘Jim and the Beanstalk,’ the children have been writing ‘thank you’ messages to ‘Jim’ from the giant. Working collaboratively, the children have used their eyes to build a sculpture using solid shapes and surrounded it using resources of their own choice to make a triangular, square or rectangular frame.
They have loved designing groovy glasses to sell in their store.
