This week in Year One, we have started a new Science based topic ‘Sound and Light’. We have learnt lots about light this week and discovered different light sources that we use every day. We watched a video to learn about day and night and we are beginning to understand that when the world rotates it is day in some parts of the world and nighttime in other countries, like Australia. In English we have been looking at the story, Little Red Riding Hood. We had great fun in English writing our own endings to the story ‘Little Red Riding Hood’. It was lovely to hear all of the children’s imaginative ideas. We also enjoyed filling in speech bubbles for what the characters might be saying! In Art, we have moved on from paper weaving that we did last week and started weaving with wool! The children found this tricky at first but are now starting to get the hang of it. In RS we read the story ‘The Man who said Thank you’ and listed some important things in our lives that we are thankful for. In Math’s we have been looking at mass. We began by exploring the words lighter and heavier, and moved onto using balance scales to weigh items using non-standard measure. Another very busy week in 1F!
Year 2 have had a full and busy week. We have started looking at non-fiction books in English, with a focus on Dinosaurs. We learned about how to use a contents page, how the index can help us find out about a specific subject, and how the glossary can help us with working out what words that we don’t understand actually mean. In Maths, we finished our recap of calculations with subtraction and moved onto shape work. We focused on the features of 2D and 3D shapes. In Topic we began our learning about the Ancient Greeks by discussing who they were, where they were from and created a timeline of their history. In RS we looked at the story of Moses and the 10 Plagues, and the children had some excellent discussions and questions to ask.
Year 3 have had a super week. We had a wonderful time at Pizza Express on Tuesday. The children learnt all about fresh ingredients and even tasted olives, mozzarella, red onion and basil. The children made their own pizzas and brought them back to school to eat for lunch. We have been learning how to use speech marks and also how we use speech bubbles in cartoons. In Maths we have been learning how to move ones into the tens column when the ones go over 10. In Science we learnt about light sources. We discussed natural light and we also discussed whether or not the moon is a light source!
In Geography we read a passage about the Masai Tribe and answered questions about the text. In history they have continued to learn about the Anglo Saxons. What a super week!
