This week in maths we have been learning all about halves and quarters. We enjoyed cutting different foods into halves and quarters and we had a great discussion about which way we needed to cut certain pieces of food to ensure that we ended up with equal pieces. We particularly enjoyed eating the chocolate brownies after we cut them in half! In English, we read the story ‘The House that Jack Built’ and spent lots of time exploring rhyming words. We have also been writing instructions for Jack, to help him build a new house. We ordered pictures of each stage of the building process to help us plan our writing. In science, we have been looking at push and pull, and had a good hunt around the classroom for things that we push and things that we pull. In Forest School, we had a go at making our own potions and the children had great ideas about what their potion would do. We had strength potions, shrinking potions, invisibility potions, a potion that would turn you into a bat and even a potion that would turn you into wood! Another busy week in 1F!
Year 2 have had another fun and busy week. In English, we have been continuing our work on poetry. We have focused on acrostic poems, learning how to set them out properly and their features. We studied some example poems before making our own acrostics based on a similar theme: animals! The children were very creative and wrote some excellent poems. In Maths, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We looked at the features of each shape and used the correct terminology to describe them, such as vertices, edges and faces. We took advantage of the good weather to take our learning outside and go on a shape hunt around the playground. We discovered that 2D and 3D shapes are everywhere in the world around us, with some in surprising places. In Topic, we finished our work on the climate zones from around the world by describing and labelling the features of each zone, from Arctic to Tropical. We also researched different countries that are in each zone.
Year 3 have been very busy this week. We completed our group project on Hadrian’s wall. We also designed our posters for the Theatre Royal poster competition. We finished the week with our wonderful performance at the Harvest Festival.
Have a wonderful half term break.
