This week in our Maths lessons, we have been learning about 3D shape. We have been learning to name regular shapes such as cubes, cuboids, spheres and have even learnt some tricky shapes such as pentagonal, and octagonal prisms! The children impressed me with how well they could describe the shapes to their partners. They described the shapes of the faces and described curved or straight edges. In English, we read the story Winnie the Witch at the seaside. The children were then given some sentences from the story and they had to carefully put the capital letters in the correct places. In our topic lesson, we looked at how people travel to the seaside, and how this has changed over time. We also looked at a map of Great Britain and looked for seaside towns. Our poem of the week this week was a seaside sense poem. The children carefully used their senses to fill in the gaps in the poem. On Monday we thoroughly enjoyed watching the OVO Women’s cycling tour. We got to cheer on all of the riders and wave our flags, despite all of the rain! On Wednesday we also had a lovely visit from Ivy, the golden Labrador puppy. Another busy week in 1F.
Year 2 have had a great week. We have worked hard in Maths learning about area, and we drew some great area monsters. In English, we wrote descriptions of Grandma from George’s Marvellous Medicine and started to learn about how to use speech marks. In Topic, we learnt about habitats and this was folllowed up on our trip on Tuesday at Redgrave and Lopham Fen. We all had an excellent trip. We learnt lots about map reading, habitats, types of animals and exploring and enjoying wildlife. We finished the week by making a huge mess by creating our gardens in a shoe box lid.
Year 3 have been busy finishing off their magazines for Year 1. In Maths we have been learning about measurement and converting CM into MM and L into ML. We have also been measuring our fingernails in MM and recording the data in a graph. In Geography we have been looking at an ordnance map and recording the symbols and their meanings. In History we have continued our studies on castles and we have started to look at the people who lived in castles. In RS we have been learning about Pauls conversion and the start of the Christian church. We really enjoyed meeting Ivy the golden Labrador puppy. It has been another busy week in Year 3, but a very enjoyable one!
