This week in maths we have been learning to tell o’clock and half past times and we have also been converting these to digital times! We have also been looking at finding the difference and adding multiples of 10. In our topic lesson we looked at the life cycle of a frog. The children could very confidently order this life cycle and were very good at naming the different stages in the life cycle. We also discussed our five senses and why these are important to different animals. In our writing this week, we created a fact file all about frogs! The children recorded some interesting facts and took great care to present these neatly on their poster, remembering to include capital letters, full stops, finger spaces and even some exclamation marks! In art, we have started to make animal masks. We carefully planned these onto paper first, and are looking forward to finishing these next week.
This week in Year 2 we have worked hard. In English, we learnt about conjunctions, planned and wrote thank you letters from Barnaby Bear to Kate Koala. We started to read ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ which we will use as the base for English work. In Maths, we revised doubling and halving and inverse operations. We enjoyed doing some problem solving. In Topic, we found out all about Australian animals and completed fact files on our chosen animal. In Art, we started our Aborigine inspired dot art work. In DT, we continued to work on our bridges. They look amazing and it was worth being careful. In R/S, we continued to learn about the parables.
In Year 3 this week we have been using our research skills to complete questions on areas of the curriculum that we have been learning over the year. We have been focusing on addition, subtraction and division word problems and working out from the vocabulary which function we should use.
In English we completed a reading comprehension task independently and answered questions about what we had read.
In History we continued our work on castles and looked at different types of castles. We are also enjoying our Mathletics this term.
Year 1 are looking forward to their trip to Colchester Zoo on Monday and movie night next Thursday.
