news archives This Week in Pre Prep

Year 1

This week in Maths we have been learning to bridge 10 using bead strings! The children found this quick tricky at the start of the week, but they have demonstrated great resilience and are now much more confident at this. We have started a new topic this week all about living things and their habitats. In our topic lesson we planted runner beans and cress seeds. We also learnt about what these seeds will need to grow. We are looking forward to watching these grow over the next few weeks. In our writing lesson, we created a set of instructions for how to plant a bean seed. We used time connectives and bossy verbs! In science we learnt about things that are living, not living and have never lived. We discussed plants and animals, materials that come from trees, and also plastics and metal. In our Forest School lesson we created some art work inspired by the artist, Anthony Goldsworthy. A very busy, but fun, start to the term for Form 1!

Year 2

Year 2 have made a super start to the summer term. In English we are learning how to write invitations and are linking this to our new topic. In Maths, we have revised our number bonds and discovered some interesting patterns. We have done some problem solving work. Our new topic on Australia is very interesting. We have used atlases to find Australia, labelled the continents and a detailed map of Australia with key features and cities. We learnt about the history of Australia. In Art, we used careful shading to complete Australian scenes and in Design Technology we looked at structures including bridges. In R/S, we discussed and wrote up the story of the Good Samaritan.

Year 3

In Year 3 this week we have been learning how to add four digit numbers by partitioning. In English we have been writing character descriptions about characters from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory. In Geography we started our new topic about the seashore and coastal erosion. In History we have started to learn about the Norman invasion. We are also very excited that some of our poems have been selected to be published in poetry book called Poetry Wonderland. A fantastic first full week back.
