This week in Maths we have been learning about place value. We have been looking at what each digit is worth in a two-digit number. We have been making numbers using place value cards and have also been using dienes to build numbers. The children are getting much more confident at identifying how many 10’s and 1’s make up a number. In our writing this week, the children have been writing about what they did over February half term. It was lovely to hear about all of the wonderful things that they have been up to! In phonics, we have been learning the tricky split i_e sound. The children could recall this sound well and are starting to remember both letters when writing the sound. In our Art lesson this week we have started making rain sticks. We carefully used paper mache to cover a kitchen roll tube and filled the tubes with rice, oats or pasta. We enjoyed making a lot of mess when making these and we are looking forward to decorating then next week.
This week in Year 2 we have been learning how to find information in books and have completed a dinosaur fact file. In Maths, we have been learning about fractions of shape and number. In R/S we found out about the ten commandments and wrote our ideas for school rules. In Topic, we learnt about Ancient Greek farming and food as well as houses. We pretended to be archaeologists and put together a Greek pot puzzle. In Art we worked on creating Ancient Greek style frescos and used a variety of skills to complete them.
This week in Year 3 we have been learning about measurement. We have been focusing on length and mass. We really enjoyed predicting how many cubes weighed 100g or 200g. In English we wrote a biography about St Edmund. We have been learning about the story of Saint Edmund in history. We completed a storyboard about his death and why he became so famous. In Geography we learnt about food and farming in Kenya. We discussed what we fruit and vegetables are grown in Kenya. In Creative Writing we wrote ‘an incredible diary about……..’ They were amazing.
