We started our week with a fantastic visit to Moyses Hall. We enjoyed learning all about a Victorian wash day and we all got to take part in the process of washing a smelly, Victorian sock! The children particularly enjoyed using the wash board and washing dolly. We also had the opportunity to look at some Victorian toys and got to play with these in the museum. The marbles, diablo and swing toys were our favourites. Before we left the museum, we also had a quick look around the new Space exhibition and were amazed to see a real space suit! In maths this week, we have been recapping on using a number line to add two numbers and we have been practising using our fingers to count on. In RS, we have been learning about the story of Jesus and the paralysed man. In art, we have started weaving, using wool. The children have found this quite tricky but have displayed great resilience! Another exciting week in 1F!
This week we have been very busy. In English, we have been working on the key parts of a sentence and have started to learn about prepositions. We retold a nursery rhyme as a story. We are making progress with our joined up handwriting. In Maths, we have continued to learn our times table and have learnt how to add two and three digit numbers. We have looked at different strategies for working out subtraction sums. In Topic, we labelled a map of the United Kingdom with rivers and mountains. We had to use our atlases very carefully. We continued to learn about the properties of materials and enjoyed carrying out an experiment especially as it involved water! In Art, we learnt how to use pastels and did detailed pictures of leaves. In Design Technology, we continued working on our winding mechanism project.
In Year 3 this week we have been adding 2 digit numbers together. We have used different strategies to do this. In English, we wrote a story based on the Kenyan story Mama Panya’s Pancakes. In History we have been learning about the Anglo Saxons and West Stow. In Geography we learnt about Kenya and its geographical features. We are looking forward to our trip to West Stow.
