This week in Cygnets we having been talking to one another about the people that we love and those that are important to us. The children have made some cards with their handprints and in the centre is a heart. They enjoyed sprinkling them with glitter too. They have also decorated a canvas with a picture of them blowing some paper hearts on. We have hung these on the wall of the classroom, but we promise these will be sent home at some stage as they look amazing.
Following Chinese New Year and several Birthdays recently, we continued the theme of Celebrations this week with St Valentine’s Day.
The children were very excited to join in at circle time talking about who they love and the special times they have together.
We also talked about our golden rules – Everyone is special, be kind & helpful to one another, think about how you are making other people feel & listen to everyone. The children understood that by following the golden rules everyone would have a turn at talking about their special times and their friends would listen too.
The children also beautifully decorated heart shapes and we added the names of the people they love to the back. What a lovely week!
This week the children in Reception have been finding out a little bit about the Arctic regions. Rory’s Mummy visited our classroom to talk about their recent family holiday to Lapland and looked at suitable clothing for this region. They have looked at non-fiction books and short educational documentaries to learn about animals that inhabit these areas. Our Polar Shop allowed the children to purchase puppets, books and posters using appropriate combinations of coins. Weighing animals using a variety of resources allowed the children to order animals from heaviest to lightest. Creating an ice mountain where animals were frozen in blocks of ice led to interesting discussion as to how they could get them out.
