We are continuing our festive celebrations this week in Cygnets. The classroom is starting to look more Christmassy by the day!!
We have been making our own Christmas cards to bring home. Some of the cards will have dried pasta to decorate them, and some we are using our fingers and toes. We will be going over our colours and numbers as we decorate with our hands and feet. The children all have ball balls with their name on, that the children have put them on our Christmas tree. Before they did this we played “happy families” with them to see if the children could recognise their names.
The Swans have been busy working in Father Christmas’ grotto this week. They have been writing and posting Christmas cards and helping the Elves by wrapping presents. The Swans also wrote letters to Father Christmas. Using the computer, they looked for toys they might like Father Christmas to bring them.
The children also used their mathematical skills to count the Christmas cards from the post box, matching them to the right numeral.
What fun the children in Reception have had, painting triangular Xmas trees with three points and straight sides…..perfect for printing baubles and covering in glitter. Making different sized salt dough stars allowed the children to create both simple and more complex patterns. The children loved making paper chains using rectangles and this has consolidated their understanding of how to create linking cylinders. Trying to make an open chimney shape using duplo was a really great activity this week. Using simple Santa stick puppets, the children were able to use these to illustrate the song….’When Santa got stuck up the chimney.’
