This week in maths we have been learning all about halves and quarters. We enjoyed cutting different foods into halves and quarters and we particularly enjoyed eating the chocolate brownies afterwards! In English, we have been writing instructions for Jack, to help him build a new house. We ordered pictures of each stage of the building process to help us plan our writing. In science, we have been looking at push and pull, and had a good hunt around the classroom for things that we push and things that we could pull. In Art, we decorated houses using different items that we found in the classroom. We used Lego to make a brick pattern, sponges to print windows and doors and even multilink to print different window panes. Another busy week in 1F!
This week we have continued our work on poetry. We have learnt how to write acrostic poems. In Maths, we have revised 2D and 3D shapes and explored their properties. We had great fun with our 3D shape challenge, we had to make a 3D shape with straws and play dough. We enjoyed making tangram pictures. In Art, we have learnt how to draw a self portrait and have made some collage bonfires. In Topic, we discussed how we are different and began to look at how we should look after our bodies. We focus on healthy eating and designed a healthy lunchbox. In RS we listened to the story of Jesus feeding the five thousand. We have enjoyed our first few weeks in Year 2.
This week in Year 3 we have been learning about Hadrian’s Wall and why it was built. We pretended that we were newspaper journalists and wrote the front page story including lots of facts about Hadrian’s Wall. We also learnt about the roles of Roman soldiers and what life was like. In maths we have been learning about the properties of 2d shape and also learnt about symmetry. We learnt lots of new vocabulary for example; scalene triangle, isosceles triangle, equilateral triangle, parallel, horizontal and vertical. We also enjoyed our lesson using Mathletics. In Geography we learnt how to use a key and completed a plan of the Pre Prep building. In Science we made a life size skeleton and discussed the scientific names of the bones. We also made tessellation pictures using 2d shapes. We discovered that not all shapes tesselate. It has been a wonderful start to the term. Have a wonderful half term break and we look forward to seeing you all on Thursday 1st November at 8.30am.
