Week commencing 1st October 2018
This week in English we have been recapping the story ‘The Scarecrow’s Hat’. I was really impressed at how well the children had remembered the story and they worked hard reading problems and matching them to the correct animals. In maths we have been learning to subtract. We started off by crossing out pictures and moved onto using number lines. Some of the children even began challenging themselves to work some of the number sentences out mentally using their fingers. Our topic work has continued this week as we have been learning all about the life cycle of a pumpkin and looking at whether materials are natural or man-made.
Another busy week in Year 2. We have been looking at different subtraction methods in Maths. In English, we have continued our work on creating interesting sentences. We used ‘We’re Going on a Bear Hunt’ as our inspiration. In R/S, we looked at the first miracle and created storyboards. In our topic lessons, we learnt about the north and south poles and continued to make comparisons between our lives and those living on an island. We discussed islands around the world and worked out what would be important to survive if stranded on a desert island. We managed to start work on our pictures for the Harvest Festival. W used collage to create some lovely autumnal trees.
In Year 3 this week we have been learning how to add using partitioning. We have also started using our online Mathletics programme, which the children love. In English and History we learnt all about Boudicca and wrote a report all about her. In Geography we have been learning about plans and how we can use a key to help us find things on a map. In RS we learnt about the 10 commandments and then discussed what we thought would be good rules to follow in our lives.
- We had our parent lunch on Thursday. Mr Gary cooked a wonderful roast chicken followed by sticky toffee pudding and cream. Many thanks to all of the parents for joining us.
- Our Pre Prep Harvest festival is on Friday 12th October. Tea and Coffee will be available in the GP room from 8.45am. Please can the children bring in non perishable goods to give to local charities.
- Please sign up for your pastoral parents evening on Tuesday 16th October 4.15pm – 7pm
