This week in Cygnets we have been reading the story ‘Dear Zoo’. The children have been helping to tell the story and have shared great conversations at register about the animals and if the children have any pets at home. The children have also spoken about trips to the zoo and have shared their own experiences with their friends.
There has been a zoo set up in the builders tray this week where the children have accessed it freely throughout the morning.
The children have been creating a variety of animals from the story using a wide range of art and craft materials that will be displayed within the classroom.
The children have all settled extremely well in Swans and they have been very busy. At the beginning of the week we introduced the children to our phonics with a song and story about the sound ‘s’ which we have repeated at circle time throughout the week, the children have been very excited to share their sound books with me and tell me lots of things beginning with ‘s’, well done everyone. They have also been tracing their names, practising their cutting skills, colouring pictures, painting self-portraits and so much more.
This week, the children have been having lots of fun, counting spoonfuls of oats into different sized containers. They have joined in with repeated refrains from the story of Goldilocks and incorporated this in their role play. Using different construction materials, the children have worked collaboratively to create different sized beds for all of the bears. A selection of internet clips have supported the children in their learning of the different types of bear cubs from around the world.
