news archives This Week in Early Years

This week in Cygnets we have been thinking about people that are special to us. We have been talking about a special day that is coming up called ‘Father’s Day’ and why we celebrate it. The children have all spoken out at register time about what they enjoy doing with their Daddy’s and why they are special to them. They have each created a special surprise for them that they will be taking home next week.

The children in Swans have had such a lovely week; our topic this week has been The Seaside, at circle time there was lots of talk about what they have seen and done whilst at the beach. The children’s knowledge of the beach environment has been outstanding, talking about different sea creatures including dolphins, fish, octopus, starfish and so much more. They also talked about the beach, looking in rock pools, finding seaweeds, building sandcastles, going to the beach shop and having ice-cream on the beach.
The role-play area this week as been a beach shop and café. The children have had lots of fun, selling buckets & spades, windmills, ice-creams etc. and serving their customers in the beach café too.

This week the children in Reception have had great fun working collaboratively to search for bugs in our woods. They have been given opportunity to make observations of their minibeasts and discuss the similarities and differences in their findings. They were all so keen to paint insects and remembered to include a head, thorax and abdomen in their creations. They have used solid shapes to create bug hotels and shared a given number of toy minibeasts between them. They have used their knowledge of letters and sounds to write a list of bugs.
