This week in Year 1, we had a visit from an author, Rebecca Bourne. She introduced us to her cute little sausage dog Minnie Winnie and read us her very first published book. We loved giving Minnie Winnie a cuddle and a high five at the end of the story. In English this week, we read the story ‘Dora’s Eggs’. We had to spot verbs in the story and add them into sentences. Then we had fun thinking of our own exciting verbs to add into our own sentences such as ‘I crawled into the cave.’ In writing, we wrote fact files about frogs. We watched a video about frogs in their natural habitat and learnt about amphibians. We used big posters with facts about frogs to help us. In Maths, we have been working hard to add and subtract 10 from 2 digit numbers. We practiced counting in 10s as a class before writing our own number sentences on white boards. In topic, we have been focusing on animal habitats and adaptations. We had to look closely at legs from different animals and see if we could match them to the correct animal! In Art, we had fun creating a 3D animal. We looked at pictures of four legged animals to help us decide which one we would create. It has been great to play outside in the sunshine this week!
This week in Year 2 we have been learning about doubling and halving and have continued to work on our tables. In English, we started to read ‘George’s Marvellous Medicine’ by Roald Dahl. This will be the base for our work for the next three weeks. We recapped on sentence openers and planned our recipes. It is the final week on our Australia topic and the children are enjoying the challenge of creating tourist brochures. Mrs Catchpole is going to judge them at the end of the week. In Art, we created huge colourful flowers for a display for our new topic. The boys enjoyed their first cricket match and managed to contain their excitement in the morning.
We have been learning about multiplication and division this week. We have realised how important it is to know all of our times tables and how much easier division is if we know them really well.
In English this week we wrote our own creative story using a storyboard as a stimulus. In History we learnt about stone castles and in Geography we learnt about coastal erosion. We really enjoyed meeting Rebecca Bourne. Rebecca is an author and she came to visit Pre Prep with her little dachshund.
Year 3 are getting very excited about our Royal Wedding next week! Costumes are in and the hymns have been chosen, all we need is the Union Jack flags!
