This week in Year One, we have been learning about sound. We went on a sound walk around the school and had to walk slowly and quietly to listen to as many sounds as possible. We wrote the sounds we heard in chalk in our Outdoor Classroom. We heard things like, birds tweeting, leaves crunching, lorries, aeroplanes and teachers talking. We then listened to different sounds and beats made from a drum and had to copy the beat we could hear using our hands as an instrument. Some of us made up a beat for the rest of the children to follow. In DT we decorated our musical shakers. We are going to add some final additions such as jewels and rice and then take them to Music, to show Mrs Winton Mills the sounds we can make. In Maths, we have been learning about how we can measure things and understand words like longer and shorter. We had fun with a ‘Measure around the Room’ activity where we used multi-link cubes to measure different items in our classroom like the length of our desks, the height of our drink bottles and our maths pencils. We also had to order pencils in the correct height from longest to shortest and some of us even had a go measuring in centimetres with a ruler! In English, we wrote recounts of our fun times at home in the snow last week. It was amazing the detail the children put into their sentences to describe what they had done. The children were very excited to start swimming this week. It was lovely to see so many parents involved with our CSI science investigation, we cannot wait to find out next week who stole the tuck! What a fun week!
This week in Year 2 we have been busy catching up after all the excitement last week. In Maths, we learnt about division and fractions of shapes. We enjoyed using Skittles to find out about fractions of numbers. Of course we had to eat them afterwards! In English, we continued our work on the Magic Box poem. We planned and wrote our versions. We completed our topic on the Ancient Greeks. We found out about schools, the theatre and gods and goddesses. We finished off the week learning about soldiers and making shields. We enjoyed our session in the lab as part of Science week.
In Year 3 this week we have been writing about our trip to West Stow. In Maths we learnt about place value. The children really enjoyed Mr Abbott’s HTO game. We learnt about where the Vikings came from and in science we began our topic on magnets. In Art we have been designing our Viking shields in preparation for our Viking Day! We really enjoyed our Mad Science assembly with Mr Matter. It kick started our Science week brilliantly. We also had Grandparent’s lunch on Thursday. It was lovely to see so many grandparents attend this event.
