This week in Year One we have started a new and exciting, history topic called ‘Life in Great Grandma’s Time’. We have learnt about who Queen Victoria was and what we might see inside a Victorian school. We watched a videoclip of children visiting a Victorian classroom and noticed lots of interesting things, such as, blackboards and long wooden tables. We drew a picture of a new classroom and compared this with a picture of a Victorian classroom. In Maths, we have been learning about what numbers we can add together to make 10. We used cube snakes to separate and add together different numbers. In English, we wrote personal recounts about our Christmas holidays. It was very exciting to hear what the children have been doing. We are starting to look at a variety of Nursery Rhymes such as Humpty Dumpty. We are learning about rhyming words and different patterns we can see in rhymes. In Art, the children have started an art piece with the theme ‘Nature’s Delights’. The children are going to enter this art work for a Young Art East Anglia competition. An eventful first week back!
Year 2 have worked very hard this week and have settled quickly back into routines. In English, we have been looking at different types of punctuation and how to improve our sentences. We are using ‘The Enormous Turnip’ as our story. In Maths, we have been learning about number patterns and multiples. We have been practising out 5 times table too. We have started a new topic on the British Isles. We have been learning how use an atlas and label a map with care. We have learnt about natural and manmade materials as well as starting to learn about famous Britons. We enjoyed learning all about Mary Anning and her famous fossil discoveries. We did some detailed drawings of fossils and enjoyed handling something so old. In RS, we have looked at stories from the Old Testament. In Art, we started work on our entries for the ‘Young Art East Anglia’ competition.
In Year 3 this week we have been very busy. We started the week recapping on our Science topics from last term. It was interesting how much we had forgotten! In English we wrote about our favourite day in the Christmas holiday. In maths we have been rounding number to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. In Art the children have been designing their pictures for the ‘Young Art of East Anglia’ competition. In RS we have been learning about The Bible. Our story this week was about ‘the Creation’. A fantastic first week back! I have included some photos below from our last week at school before Christmas.
