Year 1

This week Year One have been busy with the last of our production rehearsals. It has been great seeing the children in their costumes looking the part! In English, we read the story the Little Bear Lost. We had fun looking at pictures in the story of different toys and finding interesting words to describe them. In writing we looked at a picture of inside a toy box and wrote sentences about the toys we could see. In Science, we have continued to learn about forces that push and pull. We investigated a variety of objects and materials to see if they were magnetic or had a ‘pulling’ magnetic force. This was great fun testing objects around our classroom. In R.S we have continued to focus on the Nativity story and sequenced the story using sentences. We then labelled characters from the story on a Nativity scene. We realised that this story is very similar to our Christmas production! In Maths, we looked at photos of real life objects that look similar to 2D shapes. Each of us had to stick two pictures in the correct shape’s box. We noticed that a pizza slice is in the shape of a triangle! Another busy week, we hope the children sleep well this weekend ready for a week of performing!

Year 2

This week we have been busy with our Christmas play. In English, we planned and wrote careful descriptions of Winnie the Witch. We tried to start our sentences in different ways and used a variety of adjectives. In Maths, we have continued working on fractions of shapes. In Topic, we have found out about hieroglyphics and the Rosetta Stone. We completed our work on Hinduism with lessons on Hindu gods and worship. We have been very busy in Design Technology. Our shoebox tombs are looking very impressive and we plan to decorate a sarcophagus to complete the scene.

Year 3

This week in Year 3 we have continued with subtracting numbers by counting on. In English we carried out some research and wrote our own non-fiction report about the Romans. In Science we continued our work on eating a balanced diet and we wrote our own food diary for the day, to check that we are eating a balanced diet. In Geography we used an atlas and located different countries in Europe. We used a key to show which countries were which. We have also been busy practising for our production. We are showing it to the whole school on Monday!
