I was thrilled to be invited back to South Lee School (read about my last visit here), and was even more excited when Mrs Julie Last – Head of Early Years, informed me that it was Outdoor Learning Week for their Nursery and Kindergarten children.
Introducing a strong relationship with nature at an early age has been proved to provide children with a list of qualities that are taken through life into adulthood. Schools across the globe have participated in Outdoor Classroom Day this week, and in recent years outdoor learning has become a much talked about subject. At South Lee, they have inestimable enthusiasm for their outdoor education and it has developed substantially for the Early Years department over the last few years. It has the teachers from upper school eager to include more outdoor learning into their teaching…

Cupcake Day for Alzheimer’s Society
Georgia Wishlade (and her mum) will be, for the second year running, hosting a Bake Sale in aid of Alzheimer’s Society. Please support them by bringing along a donation to buy a cupcake (or a few!) on Thursday 16th June, at morning drop-off.
Prep School Tuck Shop
A polite reminder that pupils should ensure that their tuck shop accounts remain in credit. Pupils will not be able to purchase items without sufficient funds. All items are 25p each.
ISGA Golf: South Lee Qualify for Finals Day
I am delighted to announce the South Lee A team, consisting of Patrick and Declan Noone, have reached the finals day of the ISGA Golf Competition. This is to be held at Radley School on 21st June. Good luck, boys!
Year 8 Leavers’ Programme

Humanities Revision Checklist and Resources
A reminder to parents and pupils that the revision topic lists are available on the school website. They are located in the parent pages, under ‘revision information’. I have also briefed pupils on the content of their exams during lessons this week. Useful websites for revision are as follows:

Golf lessons continue at Bury St. Edmunds Golf Club with golf Pro Matt Alderton. This week’s action took place on the chipping green with four different types of shots practiced. If anyone wishes to join Golf Club please contact Mr Hoare or Mr Loveday for more details.
Boys’ Premier Tennis
An excellent start to the Tennis season for the Premier U13 Boys’ team, with an outstanding win over Samuel Ward Academy in Haverhill.
Gilbert Keitley-Webb, Arthur Burns, Tom Saunders and William Simmons won 5 out of 6 matches with some strong hitting and good doubles play.
Well done boys!
The U8 boys’ tennis C team played at Ipswich Prep School on Tuesday 16th May. The team consisted of the following players: Wilfred Frost, Charlie Jack, Seth Bretherton and Harry Allston.
Their first match (semi final) was against Orwell Park. The results are as follows:-
Wilf won 10-9
Charlie lost 9-10
Seth won 10-8
Harry won 10-5
Wilf and Charlie (doubles) won 10-8
Seth and Harry (doubles) lost 8-10
The team, therefore, won 4-2 and went through to the final.
The final was against Ipswich Prep and although we lost this 5-1 (Seth and Harry won their doubles match), I would like to congratulate the boys for playing excellent tennis. Most of the matches were incredibly close and very exciting to watch.
Well done, boys!
U9 A and B Girls’ Cricket
The U9 A and B girls’ cricket teams played their first match of the season at Barnardiston on Wednesday 17th May.
The A team won by 24 runs, with the scores ending as follows: Barnardiston scored 182 runs and South Lee scored 206.
A special mention to Emilia Ward and Poppy Savage for a partnership of strong, consistent batting, and to Heidi Cilliers and Rosie Deacon for accurate bowling.
Well done, to all girls who played. There were some amazing catches and run outs; and even a six from Heidi Cilliers! A successful start to our first girls’ cricket season.
U9 A and B Boys’ Cricket
A lovely Monday afternoon of Cricket for the U9 A and B teams, with a loss and a win. The A team scored 90, chasing 105, so lost by 15 runs. Well done to Tom Gillespie for being awarded ‘Man of the Match’.
Congratulations to the U9B team who chased 90 runs. South Lee scored 103 in reply, with a great individual ‘Man of the Match’ performance from Henry Brown, with the ball and bat.
Well done to both our teams. A credit to the school.

U11 Boys’ Tennis
On Thursday 18th May, the South Lee U11 Boys’ Tennis Green Team played Westerley and lost 2-12, despite six very tight matches. They then played Orwell Park and won 12-0 winning all their matches. Congratulations to James Walshe, George Howard, Farley Bretherton and Orlando Adams.
William Lyall (Year 7) has lost his games t-shirt (named).
Please can everyone check their belongings to help William find this missing item.
