A very warm welcome back to school after our half term break. Lines for our Pre Prep production were given out before half term and we have now started our rehearsals. The production will be on Tuesday 5th December and Wednesday 6th December at 2.15pm. Refreshments will be available after the production.
This week in Year One we have come to the end of our ‘Where I Live’ topic. We have been learning about maps this week, and created a pirate map to find treasure using a key. We have been discussing different buildings we can find around Bury St Edmunds and matched labels to buildings and places. In Maths, we have been learning about doubling. We have been singing a doubling song to help remind us of each pair.We have also been learning about odd and even numbers. We had to share cubes out from 1-20 to decide whether the numbers could be divided into two groups evenly. In English, we have been writing sentences to re-tell the story of the Three Little Pigs. The children had to look closely at sequenced pictures from the story to help them. In DT this week, we designed a colourful house using a card template and made a 3D house. It was tricky sticking all of the parts together, but a good challenge for us! Our poem of the week was called ‘Poppy Poppy’ to help us learn about Remembrance Day. We discussed how important it is to remember those who fought for us in the war. Another busy week back after half term!
This week in English, we have looked at regular and irregular verbs in the past tense and have completed our work on instruction writing. In Maths, we have been working on odd and even numbers and two digit calculations. In RS, we learnt about Rama and Sita and completed a storyboard with careful pictures. We painted our clay diva lamps and did some careful collage work.
In Topic, we finished learning about ourselves by discussing medicine, exercise and the skeleton.
We looked at the work of an archaeologist in preparation for our next topic on the Ancient Egyptians.
Year 3 have been learning about place value. We have been learning about what each digit represents in a 2/3/4 digit number. We have also been adding 10, 100 and 1000 to a number.
In English we have been writing instructions. We also got to make our Rice Crispie cakes following our instructions. In History we made a Roman soldier and in Geography we learnt about the four countries that make up the United Kingdom. Some of us used our atlases to find the capital cities of the countries and labelled them on our map. In RS we have started looking at The Bible and how it is split into two parts, The Old Testament and the New Testament.
On Friday, we also held our Remembrance service. The Pre Prep children were absolutely outstanding. They all stood in silence for two minutes and then they placed their poppy on the field of poppies.
We rounded the week up with our Grandparent Lunch. We had a roast dinner followed by sticky toffee pudding. All of the Grandparents commented on how wonderful it had been.
